We are hereby presenting to you our fifth publication concerning the issue of regional development in the Masovian region. In May 2011, we celebrated the 7th anniversary of Poland‘s accession to the European Union. In order to highlight the significance of this fact for the entire country, including also the Masovia, we have decided to publish the publication in English. We hope that as a result it will rcach wider audience, including foreign readers.

The previous monographs focused on the assessment of the Płock region‘s development in the context of the development strategy of the Masovia (2008), acąuisition and utilisation of EU funds in the Masovian region (2009), factors and obstacles in the developmcnt of enterprises in the Masovia (2010), as well as social and economic development of the Płock region (2011). We believe that Poland‘s EU accession has given entire Poland and our region such a vital and strong spur for development that devoting it a separate monograph seems to be justified.
