What Zig-Zag Magic is about Zig-Zag Magic tells the story of two children, Katy and Tom, as they journey by magic carpet across an island floating in the clouds and make friends with the magic characters who live there.

Katy and Tom first find themselves in Walter Wizards school and discover that Walters spells dont always work as expected. They continue on their journey to visit Fizzy Fairy, who is moving into her tree house. Tom helps her to find Lily, her pet ladybird, who gets lost in the move. The two children then arrive at Percy Princes castle, where they meet the royal family, who spend their whole time attending to the demanding little prince. Next, the children go swimming with Daphne Dragon and her rock pool friends and have great fun until Daphne realizes she has lost her treasure. The journey ends with a farewell music-making session for the children before they fly off once more on their magic carpet.

The story is told through pictures and the teachers notes to the units give you guidance on how to use these pictures to focus the children on the storyline.

Teachers Book

The Teachers Book follows the same structure as the one accompanying Zig-Zag Island, but also has 13 pages containing a set of 39 photocopiable wordcards at the back. These match the 39 flashcards and comprise the target vocabulary (six words per unit and the four magic characters).

We strongly recommend that you photocopy these wordcards, stick them onto card, and cover them in sticky-back plastic. For suggestions on how to use the wordcards, see Using the wordcards below. The Teachers Book also includes a list of the vocabulary taught in Zig-Zag Magic and a list of the expressions used (Expressions for use in class).
