Do older women have sexual desires? Do they masturbate? Many people think not, but in this book they claim the opposite.

There is a great lack of knowledge about the sexuality of older women. This is not a coincidence, as they have a long tradition of shame when it comes to talking about it, and their environment is not very willing to hear that they are still desiring and “sexually active” women. One of the women interviewed, aged 61, says: “ I love collaborating with this project. I think that books like this are necessary to provide people with truthful information, so that they don’t end up like those of my generation who grew up with a significant ignorance about these issues. And above all, I like that it focuses on women of my age, so that everyone can see that we don’t turn into a piece of wood after menopause .”

The very concept of “sexually active” is misleading, as it tends to relate exclusively to having intercourse or other sexual activities with another person, excluding masturbation.

Masturbation is, however, the most common way of enjoying sex for older women, whether they have a partner or not. 97% of the 311 women between 55 and 87 years of age contacted by the author of this book masturbate. But only 18% of the group agreed to share their experience with masturbation and other sexual activities, thus showing the validity of the silence that hides female masturbation. A silence that has already been pointed out as responsible for the lack of knowledge we have about this sexual practice, especially among postmenopausal women.

It is not possible to overthrow such beliefs if these women remain silent.

The women, pioneers, who share their experiences with masturbation (present and past) in this book break this silence and draw a hitherto unknown sexual profile of older women, in which many female readers will be able to see themselves fully or partially reflected and where male readers also have something to learn.

And although they talk about other aspects of their sexuality, their stories focus on masturbation because it is an unequivocally autonomous sexual practice, which women manage by themselves and for themselves without the intervention of anyone else; faithfully representing the independent sexual drive of each woman. And because, given the frequent sexual decline of their male partners, or because they live alone, masturbation becomes their main source of orgasms. Something that, as has been said, our society is not quite sure it wants to know.

Have these women ever talked about masturbation? Do they know anyone in their circle who does it? When did they discover masturbation? Do they still do it as often as when they were young? Do their partners know? At what time of day do they do it? Have they ever been caught masturbating?
