The Trials and Tribulations of Peto
Opis:
Growing up as a young boy in Liverpool Peto (pronounced Peeto) was the nick name for John Peterson, Peto had a slightly darker skin complexion than other boys of his age. Peto did not look like your stereotypical English boy which was ironic as that is exactly what he always thought he was. A typical English boy and man was all he ever strived to be, his mixed heritage of English, Irish, Scottish and Indian blood was passed down to him through his grandparents and parents. His skin colour was just slightly darker than the usual typical English born man and because of this, sadly Peto suffered many forms of racism as a child. His skin colour was passed to him through his American born Grandfather who was of Indian descent, his grandfather had come to Britain while working on a cargo ship as the ships first mate. Arriving at Liverpool docks, his friend the captain invited him to stay at his family home in Dundee while they were on leave. It was there he met and instantly fell in love with the captain’s daughter a beautiful Scottish lass. They married and settled in Liverpool where they had four sons, although Peto was considered to be quite good looking by the fairer sex with his dark looks he was usually mistaken for having an Italian heritage. Made to feel ashamed of his real mixed heritage and skin colour, he did nothing to dispel the Italian theory, he quickly learned to fight and defend himself from a very early age while growing up in Liverpool. Although females quite liked his darker looks, unfortunately, males did not, bullies usually had some form of racial prejudices passed down to them by their parents and Peto knew only too well how to form a fighting stance during his early years. Becoming an educated and compassionate man while growing into adulthood and keeping his Liverpool Scouse sense of humour, was one of the biggest challenges he had to face. Despite this, Peto encountered many good people during his life and these meetings usually led to him finding adventure on many hilarious occasions while he tried to navigate his way through life. This is Peto’s funny, sad, and at times moving story....
