Описание
Why do two therapists, applying the same technique, get such different results?
That question stayed with me through twenty-five years of practice in Lima, and led me to study with the great masters of manual therapy: Upledger, Barral, Smith, Sills, Milne. What I found after all those classrooms wasn't a better technique. It was something prior to technique: the mind from which the therapist touches.
This book is, in large part, the account of how I arrived at that answer. I wrote it in the first person, with the sessions that overwhelmed me in my early years, the teachers who marked me, the people who returned and those who didn't. There is more narrative than treatise in it, more table than classroom. Anyone looking for a manual of techniques won't find one here. Anyone who wants to look closely at what happens when two presences meet, will.
The effectiveness of a session, I discovered, doesn't depend on protocol. It depends on recognizing which of two minds you are operating from. One fragments, judges, and needs to be right. The other unifies, listens, and releases the possibilities.
For therapists who sense there is something beyond technique. For people who lie down on a table and feel that something happens there that no one names. For anyone who wants to listen to what the body says without words.
From which mind are you touching? From which mind are you being touched?
