I have spent many hours walking through London with a camera and no particular destination. These photographs were made during those walks — on the way to somewhere else, or nowhere at all. They were made while moving through the city without an agenda — walking, waiting, watching. The camera was used less to capture events than to acknowledge what was already there: gestures repeated daily, spaces briefly occupied, lives passing without announcement. In a city defined by noise and motion, much of its character exists in quieter moments. People pause. Light falls. Streets empty and refill. Nothing remarkable happens, and yet everything continues. The images in this book are offered without hierarchy or narrative. They are observations rather than statements — fragments of a city seen in passing, and left intact. I am UK-based street and architectural photographer working primarily in black and white. His work focuses on the interaction between people, light, and the geometry of the city. Monochrome Metropolis is a collection of photographs made while walking the streets of London, capturing fleeting moments within the architecture of everyday urban life.
