Лезгинка: Военный танец, который определяет нацию

This book presents a comprehensive practitioner-based examination of the Lezginka within the Vainakh (Chechen and Ingush) tradition.Written by Umar Suriev, a professional dancer with over two decades of experience, this work approaches the Lezginka not as performance, but as a structured cultural system. The book explores the internal logic of the dance, including biomechanics, posture, spatial control, role differentiation, and rhythm, alongside its historical development and cultural significance. It examines the Lezginka as:- a system of movement governed by discipline and control- a social and behavioral code expressed through the body- a form of cultural transmission preserved across generations- a tradition shaped by historical events, including war and forced displacementDrawing on both lived experience and documented sources, the work addresses the lack of detailed English-language material on the subject and provides a structured understanding of the dance beyond visual interpretation. The Lezginka is presented not as a spectacle, but as a living system that reflects identity, hierarchy, and cultural continuity.
