Описание

Most people, when they think of soldiers, think of the hyper-masculine infantry charging up over a hill, guns in hand. This is the story of a different type of soldier, the all-male military entertainers of World War II. As I followed the stories of The Tin Hats, The Kit Bags, The Bandoliers, The Forage Caps and The Haversacks as they accompanied the Allied troops up to the front lines from 1941 to 1945; I began to understand that traditional masculinity combined with kindness, empathy and humour contributed to an effective fighting force. These travelling minstrels, Canadian soldier concert parties, were involved in a giant game of musical chairs to bring lightness and joy to homesick, battle-weary, and injured soldiers wherever they might have been during the conflict.
