Описание
Scottish born George Tinline first migrated to Sydney, Australia in 1838 to work for the Bank of Australasia. He was transferred to their Adelaide branch in 1839 and then resigned that same year to take up a position as an Accountant in the Bank of South Australia. In the economic crisis of 1851-53 in South Australia, as acting Manager of the Bank of South Australia, he convinced the Governor of South Australia, Sir Henry Edward Fox Young, to exercise his power to enact the Bullion Act of 1852. This action averted the severe financial instability caused by the mass departure of men from South Australia to the Victorian goldfields and the resulting drain of hard currency. The Act permitted the Government to assay uncoined gold at a higher price than the Victorian rate, resulting in a redirection of wealth back into the South Australian economy.
