Ойлдэйл Кид. Полная жизнь и музыка Мерла Хаггарда

He was born in a converted boxcar to Dust Bowl refugees. He lost his father at nine. He rode freight trains across California as a teenager. He went to San Quentin at twenty. And then he came out singing — and spent the next fifty-six years producing some of the greatest music in American history. This is the complete story of Merle Haggard — the Oildale kid who became The Hag, the working-class California Okie who became one of the most important artists in the history of American music. The Oildale Kid traces the full arc of a life that was too hard and too rich to be anything but extraordinary — from the Dust Bowl migration that brought his family from Oklahoma to California, through the San Quentin years where Johnny Cash's prison concert showed him what music could be, through the Bakersfield Sound that gave country music its conscience, to the five decades of recordings and touring that produced a body of work unlike anything else in the American canon.
