ИДЫ НОЯБРЯ: Пьеса в трех актах

Washington has its own Ides. Senator Julius Cane is at the height of everything. His landmark bill — four years in the making, forty-two million people counting on it — is one floor vote from passing. His presidential announcement is weeks away. His numbers in Iowa are sixty-three percent. The party is already reorganizing itself around him. His oldest friend is about to destroy him. The Ides of November is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar set inside the United States Senate. Senator Marcus Brewer has been Julius Cane's closest friend for thirty years. He believes in the republic. He believes in the rule of law. He believes, with the particular certainty of a man who has been right about things his entire career, that Julius Cane is becoming something the founders specifically designed against. He is not wrong about the danger. He is wrong about everything else. Driven by political strategist Cassia Venn and propelled by a conspiracy that mistakes principle for permission, The Ides of November follows the betrayal, its immediate aftermath, and the long reckoning that follows — through a Senate hearing where Brewer testifies without counsel, a ghost that appears at three in the morning in a hotel room, and an epilogue that asks whether the things we do in the name of principle can ever be separated from the men we become in the doing. A play about power, certainty, friendship, and the specific cost of being right for the wrong reasons. Three acts. Nineteen scenes. One question that Shakespeare asked four hundred years ago and that Washington has never stopped answering.
